Triangle Area Cultural Response
Emergency Network News

The Raleigh Alliance for Response group has formed as the Triangle Area Cultural Response Emergency Network (TACREN). The network covers the "Triangle" area in NC (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and the associated Wake, Durham, and Orange counties).

The network currently has an ad hoc steering committee that meets about every 4 to 6 weeks. A survey of regional institutions is in development, and should be ready for distribution soon. The network has also purchased some response materials for "go-kit" back packs, and will be distributing those among the three counties. They hope to have a cell phone with a hotline number by early September that they can advertise to cultural heritage groups in the area, and plan in the next year to do more programming and mentoring on disaster preparedness planning in the area.

Despite their new organization, TACREN has already responded to one emergency in the area; a county courthouse burned in late March and the county historical society had materials inside. TACREN assisted with their triage and recovery efforts.
