Alliance for Response

A new collaborative disaster network has formed in Seattle. The Seattle Heritage Emergency Response Network (SHERN) has its beginnings in the 2006 Seattle Alliance for Response Forum. SHERN has adapted the model mutual aid agreement and model mission statement developed by Washington's Connecting to Collections Work Group on Collaborative Disaster Planning in 2009.

Fourteen institutions have joined SHERN so far, including the City of Lake Forest Park, Diocese of Olympia (Episcopal Church), King County Archives, King County Law Library, Museum of History and Industry, National Archives Pacific-Alaska Region, Providence Archives, Seattle Art Museum, The Seattle Public Library, University of Washington (UW) Burke Museum, UW Henry Art Gallery, UW Law Library, UW Libraries, and the Frye Art Museum. Those who join are expected to have an institutional disaster plan. The National Archives Pacific-Alaska Region Headquarters has hosted meetings and offered to serve as a site of a SHERN supply cache.
