Commemorative CD to Save America’s Treasures

Sing America: A Celebration of America and its Music has been released by Warner Bros. Records Inc. to benefit Save America’s Treasures. All the artists’ royalties and net profits from the CD will be used to establish an endowed fund for preservation, to be administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the partner with the White House Millennium Council in Save America’s Treasures. Heritage Preservation and the National Park Foundation are the program’s Associate Partners.

The CD includes performances by Cher, Judy Collins, John Denver, Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, the New York Philharmonic (conducted by Leonard Bernstein), Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, LeAnn Rimes, Linda Ronstadt, Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra, James Taylor, and Stevie Wonder. For more information on the CD, including a song list, track samples, and a link to the secure Time-Warner ordering system, go to www.singamerica.com.

The release of the album was announced by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton at the historic Los Angeles Theater. “While preserving historic sites doesn’t take place overnight, it is exciting to see committed people working together to ensure that wonderful pieces of our heritage, such as the historic Broadway Theater District, are preserved,” said Mrs. Clinton. “Through the Save America’s Treasures program we hope to encourage all Americans to seize this opportunity to seek out the historic places in their own communities and to work together to ensure their long-term survival.”

Warner Bros. Records Inc. Vice Chairman David Altschul said, “In developing this project we wanted to create a musical tapestry of artists whose scope embodies the richness and diversity of American culture. Music is one of America’s greatest treasures, and we can think of no better way of celebrating American music than by making sure that other national treasures remain vital parts of the American experience.”
