| CAP 2002 Recipients Announced
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Heritage Preservation have announced 141 Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) awards. The list of the grantees is available at www.imls.gov/grants/grantlists/aprilgrants.htm. The grants, which total $793,954, enable museums to conduct essential conservation assessments of their sites and collections. CAP grants help museums, especially small ones, establish conservation goals to ensure their holdings will be available to the public for years to come. Small museums represent 75 precent of all museums in the United States. IMLS provides grants to museums to participate in CAP, which is administered by Heritage Preservation. "Supporting the conservation of the vast and varied collections in our nation's museums is central to the mission of the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services," IMLS Director Dr. Robert S. Martin said. "It is especially rewarding to make these conservation grants during the year that we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Museum Services Actthe legislation that created a federal agency to support the nation's museums." Heritage Preservation President Lawrence L. Reger praised the recipients for "making the vital work of caring for collections and sites a priority at their institution and helping ensure that they are available to present and future generations." |
