Heritage Preservation Earns Mention in Washington Post

Heritage Preservation and Save Outdoor Sculpture! were cited in a September 1, 1999, article in The Washington Post titled “Losing Our Marbles.” The article, by DeNeen L. Brown, covers the deterioration of many of Washington, D.C.’s outdoor statues, focusing on the marble sculpture Puck by Brenda Putnam, which stands outside the Folger Shakespeare Library. Puck is being saved as the result of a grant from SOS!’s Conservation Treatment Awards, funded by Target Stores and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Heritage Preservation was cited as the source of a statistic that half the 32,000 outdoor sculptures in the United States need repair, and President Lawrence Reger was quoted saying that Save Outdoor Sculpture!’s mission is to help the “orphans of the art world.”
