Breaking It Apart and Putting It Together

Using crayons, colored pencils or markers, outline all the different shapes you find in each of the sculptures. Make the same shapes the same color (for example: all circles red, all triangles blue, all rectangles green, all other shapes yellow).

  • Does each sculpture have one main shape or many different shapes?
  • Do the sculptures look like something besides just shapes?
  • Besides abstract shapes, what do you think these sculptures represent?
  • How do these abstract sculptures make you feel?
  • Thinking about the abstract shapes and your answers to the questions above, do you see the sculpture differently after doing this activity?
