This sculpture was dedicated to the memory of the Greek divers who first settled in Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1905. The man is wearing a diving suit and holding a large diving helmet in his arms. In his left hand, he holds a net filled with sponges. The main industry in Tarpon Springs for many years has been harvesting natural sponges making the city the "sponge capital of the world.
