Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn
at the Foot of Cardiff Hill

TOM SAWYER AND HUCK FINN AT THE FOOT OF CARDIFF HILL
By Frederick C. Hibbard
North and Main Streets
Hannibal, Missouri 63401
1925

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are characters from Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). Together Tom and Huck get into many adventures including witnessing a murder, escaping to a nearby island, attending their own funeral and saving the life of an innocent man. In this sculpture they are shown heading out to more adventures at Cardiff Hill, one of Tom and Huck's favorite places to hang out.

Frederick Hibbard was born in Canton, Missouri, in 1881. He created many sculptures in Missouri and throughout the United States. He studied sculpture at the University of Missouri. This is the first sculpture ever to showcompletely fictional characters. In addition to depicting the characters Huck and Tom, Hibbard created another sculpture in Hannibal, Missouri, to memorialize their creator, Mark Twain.
