Is It Really REAL?
What makes something look real?Artists use elements of style to make their sculpture look more or less realistic. The elements of style are: color, scale, shape, line. For tips about using these looking tools when looking at sculpture, go to How to Look at Sculpture.
Here are some additional looking tools:
- Movement—Does the sculpture depict the figure in motion? Does the sculpture actually move?
- Texture—How does the surface of the sculpture look and feel (smooth, rough or bumpy)?
- Material—What is the sculpture made of (bronze, marble, concrete or plastic)?
