Making It Real

Have you ever heard the story of "The Emperor's New Clothes?" Seen the movie "Alice in Wonderland" or read Through the Looking Glass? Read the book about Tom Sawyer and his friend Huckleberry Finn? Seen the TV show "Little House on the Prairie" or read Little House in the Big Woods? All these stories and the people who told them have inspired public sculpture.

What's the story?

Many artists are inspired by stories. Stories can be told in books, movies, and television or passed from person to person. Through sculpture, artists tell stories in a different way.

Look at the sculptures in this section carefully. Do you know the story? What do these sculptures say to you? Do they make you want to learn about their stories? For the "real" stories, click on the images. Then hit the "back" button and click on the arrow to see the next sculpture.
