Preliminary Results of the Heritage Health Index

Heritage Preservation is conducting the Heritage Health Index in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services to gather, for the first time, data on the condition and preservation needs of U.S. collections. The combined results of the Heritage Health Index tests, representing 105 institutions, yielded interesting preliminary findings. For example, 80% of responding institutions report they are involved in preventive care of their collections, but only 28% have an up-to-date, written emergency/disaster plan, and only 13% have a current, written, long-range preservation plan for their collections. More results are available on the HHI home page.
