Heritage Preservations 2005 Annual Meeting on June 9 in Minneapolis attracted numerous conservators and other advocates for collections. Highlights of the meeting included:
- A briefing by President Larry Reger on matters in Washington concerning preservation of collections. Most federal funding is likely to remain level next year. Larry encouraged Heritage Preservation members to submit applications to federal agencies as a way of showing the needs in the field.
- A discussion of Heritage Health Index results, following up on the major presentation made by Kristen Laise and Debbie Hess Norris at the AICs General Session. Participants expressed enthusiasm for the prospective impact of the HHI findings.
- The case for Rescue Public Murals!, a new Heritage Preservation project for which fund-raising is currently underway.
- A resolution from the Heritage Preservation membership thanking Dr. Robert Martin, outgoing Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, for his service and his particular support for conservation issues.
The meeting was chaired by Debbie Hess Norris, who was elected to a second term as Chairperson. Merv Richard was elected to a second term as Vice Chairperson
Doris Hamburg, Director of Preservation Programs at the National Archives and Records Administration, and Sherelyn Ogden, Head of Conservation at the Minnesota Historical Society, have been elected to the Heritage Preservation Board of Directors as Members at Large.
