Is the Heritage Health Index Having an Impact?

Since the Heritage Health Index results were announced in early December 2005, Heritage Preservation has already distributed more than 15,000 copies of A Public Trust at Risk: the Heritage Health Index Report on the State of America's Collections. The Heritage Health Index Web site (www.heritagehealthindex.org), which hosts the full survey report, case studies, selected data, and additional resources on staff training, emergency planning, and fundraising, received 10,000 hits from December 2005 to March 2006. The survey continues to receive extensive press, with recent articles in The Art Newspaper and the Christian Science Monitor. The Heritage Health Index was also noted in the special museum section of the New York Times this March.

Clearly the news is out about the condition and preservation needs of our nation’s collections. Now Heritage Preservation needs to know how the data is having an impact. Please visit the Feedback link on the Heritage Health Index Web site to complete five brief questions about how you are using the Heritage Health Index reports and data. This information is of great interest to the Heritage Health Index funders. Feedback about the survey will also help in creating solutions to the issues that the Heritage Health Index has revealed. You may also share your comments by writing to survey@heritagepreservation.org.
