Reger to Co-Chair Preserve America Panel

At the Preserve America Summit in New Orleans October 18-19, participants will review the major components of the national historic preservation program and make recommendations to advance historic preservation programs and policy. As part of this effort, Heritage Preservation President Lawrence Reger and FEMA Director, Mitigation Division and Federal Insurance Administration David Maurstad will co-chair an issue area panel called “Dealing with the Unexpected.”

Mrs. Laura Bush, Honorary Chair of the Preserve America initiative, announced the summit on May 1 . "This year marks the 40th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act. This milestone is a perfect opportunity for all of us to take stock of the strides we've made over the last four decades in preservation, and then to determine how best to protect America's rich national heritage into the next century," she said.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) will host the summit. ACHP's mission is to promote the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of our nation's historic resources, and advise the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy. The Preserve America initiative encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy cultural and natural heritage.
