Save America's Treasures Grants Announced
Save America's Treasures has announced that 61 grants totaling $14.89 million have been awarded for 2005. Twenty-nine of this year's grants are to preserve nationally significant collections; the rest are for historic structures and sites.
These grants are the result of the competitive program administered by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, the National Park Service, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Eighty-three additional grants are being awarded as a result of earmarks by Members of Congress.

The deadline for applications for 2006 grants is April 18, 2006. Guidelines and application forms are available at www.cr.nps.gov/hps/treasures/.
Changes for the 2006 grants include:
- The minimum grant request for collections will be lowered to $25,000. For historic structures the minimum will be $125,000. The maximum grant for both categories is $700,000. All grants still require a 1-1 match. This reduction in the minimum grant amount for collections (it had previously been $50,000) should make possible applications from a broader range of collections.
- To be eligible, a historic building must be a National Historic Landmark or listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A letter from a State Historic Preservation Officer will no longer work to qualify an historic building for a Save America's Treasures Grant.
Approximately $8,250,000 has been appropriated for competitive Save America's Treasures grants for 2006.
