Rescue Public Murals Advisory Committee to Meet
On April 23, 2007, the Rescue Public Murals Advisory Committee will meet at the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles. The Advisory Committee will be briefed on Rescue Public Murals' work to form local committees to identify and nominate 10 murals for in-depth assessments involving a conservator, the artist who created the mural, and community supporters. The committee will also discuss how to address the recommendations for conservation treatment, maintenance, and fund-raising that the assessments will bring to light.
Two sub-committees will also meet. One will discuss the latest mural materials and preservation techniques with the aim of sharing this information with the public. A second will investigate the options for a potential online mural database.
Rescue Public Murals is a national project to bring public attention to U.S. murals, document their unique artistic and historic contributions, and secure the expertise and support to save them. Rescue Public Murals receives funding from the Getty Foundation, as well as from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Booth Heritage Foundation, and the Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
