New Conservation Web Sites Online
British Library Centre for Conservation Microsite
On May 17, the British Library Centre for Conservation opened its doors to the public. A Microsite was launched to introduce the new Centre and its permanent exhibition. The exhibition gives an insight into how books can deteriorate, and the range of solutions available to preserve them for the future. Sound restoration techniques are also featured.
The microsite also informs visitors of other events and displays that are taking place in the Centre and additional information on conservation and sound archiving at the Library and opportunities for professional training.
Visitors to the site can watch videos of the Library's Conservators carrying out treatments on collection items. Information on caring for your treasures is also available, as well as links to other Web sites that offer more guidance.
e_conservation, the online magazine
The website was created for the publication of a new magazine, "e_conservation, the online magazine," dedicated to all the professionals involved in the conservation of cultural heritage. The publication is committed to serve the needs of the conservator, encouraging the exchange of ideas, experience, and knowledge dissemination among professionals, and providing the latest relevant information in the field.
The first issue of the magazine will be available on the Web site from September/October 2007 in digital format and will be free to download.
Besides the magazine, the Web site offers: a calendar of events with over 100 conservation-related events worldwide, an online database with current posts of available jobs, and internships, a list of courses for professionals and many others.
E_conservation magazine is open to the submission of papers on a large range of topics, including but not limited to: conservation and restoration treatment of works of art, conservation science and theory, preventive conservation, cultural management, documentation, and ethics.
