New York Alliance for Response
Alliance for Response, NYC is a local organization focused on connecting emergency responders with representatives of the cultural heritage community. Our goal is to strengthen mitigation and response capabilities through training exercises, development of local planning efforts and improved dialogue and partnerships. The organization is composed of staff from cultural institutions (security, facilities, health/safety, collections/conservation, and administration), first responders (NYPD, FDNY, OEM, FEMA) and related industries (insurance/risk management, recovery companies).

New York City AFR is actively involved in Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts including linking institutions that are suffering to volunteer conservators, collections professionals, and salvage contractors.

Members of the New York City AFR attended the National Disaster Recovery Framework Forum on March 15, 2012 and provided members with a summary from the event. In addition, the network provided members with useful information that came out of the New York Office of Emergency Management conference Emergency Preparedness Strategies for Organizations in New York City.

In February 2012, members of the Steering Committee gave a presentation to the NYC Office of Emergency Management entitled “Emergencies at Cultural Institutions with Collections.”

On November 29, 2011, New York AFR hosted the event “Have You Planned for and Considered the Cost of Implementing Your Emergency Plan?” The program focused on planning not just for logistical response and recovery but also for the financial side of emergency preparedness.

New York City cultural institutions are invited by the New York City Office of Emergency Management to be Partners in Preparedness. Click here to learn more.
