Do One Thing for Emergency Preparedness

Every year Heritage Preservation encourages libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and preservation organizations to set aside May 1 to participate in MayDay. This year, make sure your institution is prepared!

Heritage Preservation collected examples of the simple preparedness steps that cultural organizations completed this spring. This year, participants held fire safety sessions, inventoried emergency supply kits, and created and updated disaster plans. Cultural institutions that submitted a brief description of 2014 MayDay plans or accomplishments were entered in a drawing for disaster supplies donated by Gaylord Brothers

In addition, David Carmicheal hosted a free, hour-long webinar, The Supercharged Management System: Applying the Incident Command System in Cultural Repositories, on the Connecting to Collections Online Community.

And Heritage Preservation posted weekly disaster preparedness tips throughout the month of May.
