Other ideas for educating young users of books:

  • Turn everyone into a bookmaker. Hold a workshop at which children can design and create their own books.

  • Ask children to pretend that they are books. Have them "act out" the proper way to treat books: Do not eat while reading a book; do not spill a drink on a book; do not pull books off the shelf. Encourage them to point out proper behaviors.

  • Participate in National Young Readers Day. Institute your own school- or community-wide reading day.
