Enterprise

This sculpture was originally a fountain with water coming out of the top built to commemorate the destruction of cotton crops by the boll weevil bug in 1915. It might seem strange to dedicate a sculpture to a bug, but the citizens of Enterprise were actually grateful for it. The destruction of their cotton forced the town and the county to expand their economy beyond the production of cotton, which opened up many new economic opportunities. What's even funnier is the bug was not even included in the initial design of the artwork. This was only added in 1949, 20 years after the sculpture was built.
