The Boy of the Waxhaws, Anna Hyatt Huntington, 1967
Kids can make a difference! In a letter to the artist, a sixth-grade class at Rice Elementary School in Lancaster, asked Huntington to create a sculpture of Andrew Jackson, the U.S. president born in Waxhaw, South Carolina. Huntington, also a South Carolinian, granted their wish when she presented the sculpture of a young Jackson on horseback to the school children in 1967, 200 years after president's birth.
