Learn more about the subject of the sculpture. Libraries, historical societies, encyclopedias, and the Web can be good resources for information. Your teacher can also give you some places to look for information.

One really good source (which requires an adult's help) is Inventory of American Sculpture (IAS) at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This site can also help you find the nearest outdoor sculpture to you.
