| CROMLECH 1980 By Laura Ruby, 1945 - Located: University of Hawaii Honolulu, Hawaii The word "cromlech" is a Welsh word meaning a primitive (neo-lithic) monument that has a stone supported by two or more upright stones. However, Ruby's Cromlech is made of ceramic. Her work exemplifies how man and nature both change the landscape. In the Cromlech, one part of the sculpture uses naturalistic shapes; the other half of the sculpture reflects man-made shapes. Laura Ruby was born in Los Angeles, California in 1945. She currently works in Hawaii where she studied art at the University of Hawaii. |
