If Sculptures Could Talk . . .

Large Leaping Hare

LARGE LEAPING HARE
By Barry Flanagan, 1941-
Florida International University, Art Museum, University Park, Miami, Florida
1982

Barry Flanagan is a British sculptor born in North Wales. He traveled and studied in Italy, Montreal and the United States. These travels gave Flanagan many ideas for the creation of his sculptures. He began working with soft, simple materials such as mud, paper and sand. It was only later that he began working with bronze and stone. With lots of practice, he perfected his casting and sculpting skills.

Flanagan is known for his sculptures and drawings of hares; some are realistic and others are whimsical. This particular sculpture is realistic representation of a hare jumping or leaping.
