TO DO

Design a sculpture to illustrate your favorite part of the story. Following these steps will help you with your project.

1. First, sketch a picture of your ideas on paper.

2. From your sketch, make a model of your sculpture out of clay, play-dough or papier-mache. Take your time and don't rush.

Kinder Art has instructions for creating a wire and plaster sculpture and using plaster bandages to make casts.

Remember to follow all provided directions for working with your chosen material. You might want to work with an older friend or family member.

Completing the Activity

After you are finished with your sculpture, critique it. Are you pleased with the results? Does the sculpture look like the sketch you made? Why or why not? Did the project take lots of time?

When a sculptor completes a sculpture, often there is a dedication ceremony. This event recognizes the work of the sculptor and introduces the public to the sculpture. You can host your own dedication ceremony for your sculpture. Be sure everyone reads your favorite story first. Have your audience talk about their favorite parts of the story. Find a home for your sculpture somewhere in your room (your desk, table or on a bookshelf).
