If Sculptures Could Talk . . .

Quilt Kiosk #2

QUILT KIOSK #2
1995
By Barbara Abbott
Located: Northeast corner of Texas & McNeil Streets
Shreveport, Louisiana

Quilt Kiosk #2 was designed by Barbara Abbott and built by a team of ten local sculptors. This sculpture is decorated with a colorful mosaic (picture or design made of small pieces of stone, tile or glass glued to a surface) arranged in a modified quilt pattern. The pattern is based on African-American and Anglo-American quilt patterns. This blending of patterns reflects the blending of many different types of people in Shreveport's history. In the past, groups of women would work together in parties called quilting bees to produce a quilt. By working with many different artists, Abbott continued this tradition.
