2011 Prize Guidelines

Gaylord LogoHeritage Preservation teamed with Gaylord Brothers to offer exciting incentives for participating in MayDay 2011. Participants who submitted a brief description of what their organization did for MayDay were entered in a random drawing to win one of four prizes donated by Gaylord Brothers.* The prizes included a React Pak™, a Collections Protection Kit, Rescubes®, and Leak Alert Water Detectors - all great products to have on hand in case of an emergency. Winners were announced June 1, the beginning of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season. To see a full list of participants, click here.

PRIZE DESCRIPTIONS

ReactPak

React Pak™
Created by a disaster professional, the React Pak™ contains the basic supplies and equipment needed to cope with water damage. Contents include aprons, gloves, boots, mops, plastic sheeting, and a RescubeŽ Disaster Recovery Carton.

This prize was won by the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum, in Lipscomb, TX!

Protection Kit

Collections Protection Kit
Sealed in a six-gallon bucket, this kit is stocked with enough supplies for a two-person team to protect collections in a flood-related emergency. Among the essential items: sponges, triage tags, waterproof tarp, plastic sheeting, tape, light sticks, and a waterproof document pouch.

This prize was won by the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC!

Cartons

Six Rescube® Disaster Recovery Cartons
These easy to use, lightweight boxes are great to have on hand in an emergency situation. Made of durable corrugated polyethylene, Rescube® cartons are useful to transport and store water-soaked books or papers.

This prize was won by the Newport Restoration Foundation in Newport, RI!

leak protector

Two Leak Alert Water Detectors
Catch leaks before they spread! The Leak Alert Water Detector will sound a 95dB alarm for 72 hours as soon as it comes in contact with water. The detectors are fully automatic; just place on the floor near vulnerable collections.

This prize was won by the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia, PA!

*Prize Eligibility Requirements:
While we welcome submissions from everyone, only cultural heritage institutions, associations, and agencies in the United States are eligible for the drawing, and only one prize will be awarded per organization. Heritage Preservation board member institutions are not eligible. The activity submitted for the prize drawing must take place by June 1, 2011, in order for the organization to be eligible for the drawing. If you are not eligible for the drawing but would still like to submit your story to be featured on our 2011 MayDay submissions page, please contact taskforce@heritagepreservation.org.
