In January 2009, Rescue Public Murals assessed Common Threads by Meg Saligman, a much beloved eight-story mural of the successful Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. The mural is seen at the corner of Broad and Spring Garden Streets by more than 5,800 people on a typical weekday. Although it was painted in 1998, the mural has experienced extreme fading. Thanks to fund-raising efforts by the Murals Arts Program, Common Threads is now half restored and the project will continue in the spring and summer of 2011. Read more... |

In September 2007, Rescue Public Murals assessed Homage to Seurat: La Grande Jatte in Harlem. This is the only remaining New York City mural by the late Eva Cockcroft, an artist that was instrumental in the national community murals movement. A restoration plan was proposed by conservator Harriet Irgang of Rustin Levenson Art Conservation Associates, New York, and muralist Janet Braun-Reinitz. Thanks to the support of Friends of Heritage Preservation, the mural was restored in fall 2009. Read more.... |
