Save Our History Grants Have New Deadline

The History Channel® created Save Our History to support local history education and historic preservation efforts in communities across America.  Since launching the Save Our History Grant Program in 2004, The History Channel has awarded $500,000 in grants to fifty-five historical organizations nationwide.  Organizations large and small, urban, suburban and rural, in the northern, southern, eastern, western and central United States have received Save Our History grants. To read the project descriptions of past recipients, please visit www.saveourhistory.com/pres_org/index.html.

The History Channel is proud to announce the launch of the 2006-2007 Grant Program.  This year, The History Channel will award $250,000 in grants of up to $10,000 to historical organizations to fund hands-on, experiential educational projects that teach students about their local history and actively engage them in its preservation.

History museums, historical societies, preservation organizations, historic sites, libraries, archives, government agencies, and other historical organizations are eligible to apply.

Based on feedback from prior applicants, this year the Grant Program will feature a new and improved calendar designed to give organizations more time and flexibility to build partnerships with schools or youth groups, complete applications, and plan and implement projects during an active part of the school year.  The deadline for submitting an application for the 2006-2007 grant cycle is Friday, June 2, 2006.
